Spy cams, hidden cameras, nanny cams and the like.  They’re certainly nothing new, they’ve been around for years.  Recently however there has been an explosion of new, smaller camera technologies that the consumer market is eating up like a fat kid on a bowl of ice cream!    As spy camera technology shrinks we have witnessed hidden cameras and spy cameras inside just about anything!   Hidden cameras small enough to fit inside a pack of chewing gum or a pen, some cameras are even as small as a quarter!  So what are we doing with these tiny cameras?  Is everyone so paranoid these days that they feel the need to spy on everyone?

In my option there are only a few valid reasons why you would spy on someone.   Voyeurism, safety or security.  Let’s start with the obvious voyeurism.

Let’s face it; there are a lot of perverts out there.  We all have the basic instinct see what’s behind the bedroom curtain and it’s natural to feel that way.   Spy Camera technology had given us a means to explore those urges in ways that we could never have imagined.  It is a moral issue on how you use the technology.  The same goes with any techno marvel theses days.  A laser pointer; deadly weapon or valued boardroom pointing device?  A handgun; as useful tool used for hunting or a killing machine?   A shower radio hidden camera; a remote monitoring device to ensure bathtub safely for the elderly or a pervert cam?   Optionally some couples use cameras to video tape there love play as erotic stimulus or as foreplay for future love making.   It’s all in how you use it, the camera I mean.  J

Safety  is another reason why spy cameras are so popular theses days.  Nowadays home owners, businesses and individuals alike are using spy cameras to protect themselves and there belongings.  Is the new babysitter rummaging threw my bedroom drawers looking for something to swap at the pawn shop?  An alarm clock hidden camera would answer that question for you in no time.  The gang of unruly neighborhood punks that you just know are the one’s breaking into cars at night:  It’s just a matter of time before you are their next victim! Catch them in the act with a motion activated night vision DVR and final prove to the police that they are indeed the culprits.  Spy Cameras and Digital Video Recorders are now so commonplace you can pick one up at large department stores!   Let’s include adultery a as caveat to personal safety.  Those who suspect infidelity often gravitate to hidden cameras to catch a cheating spouse.

The original intent or purpose of video cameras and recording systems was security.  Video footage either monitored live by security personnel or recorded and reviewed later to protect persons or property.  Hidden cameras aren’t the star of the show in this instance but there are quickly rising up in the ranks.  Legally for security purposes, all a business or homeowner needs is a sign that states that these premises are protected by video surveillance.  You don’t need to say where or when or inside what.   When the presence of a video camera is concealed and we don’t know of its existence the truth always comes out.

There are many laws at many levels of government that are in place to protect us from the misuse of video spy cameras.  There are agencies that dictate who can or cannot have certain types of equipment.  Spy camera and spy equipment technology has become common place feeding the frenzy of the paranoid, perverted, insecure and unsafe.  Entwined in moral fiber this, like any other technological wonder is subject for concern as to how you use it.
